Data Analysis

An inductive data analysis approach was used. This involved the analysis of the 30 interview texts to search for patterns and themes. The inductive analysis moved from reading the interview transcripts to coding “chunks of text” that provided general answers to our research question. The inductive data analysis involved reading and re-reading the coded texts. The text sections that referred to the emerging themes were extracted, additional research questions were posed, and the text sections were recoded. Through a recursive and iterative process (Bazeley, 2014) categories were identified within the themes that interpreted how the teachers in this study understood teaching their pre-service teachers to teach. NVivo (Version 10) was used to assist with management of the data.
